Civil Service Commission
The Executive Office provides support staff to the Civil Service
Commission, a Charter-mandated body charged with acting as the
appellate body for major disciplinary actions, reductions, discharges,
and discrimination complaints filed by County employees within
the Civil Service System. The Commission also deals with examination
appeals regarding exam questions only, and hears appeals on Appraisals
of Promotability scores. Additionally, the Civil Service Commission
serves as the administrative appeals body for a number of cities
that directly contract with the Commission.
Consistent with the Executive Office's desire to provide quality
and efficiency, the Commission has recently adopted a consent
calendar format to allow parties to resolve their items quickly
where there is no dispute over their civil service matter.
