The following statement was entered into the record for Supervisor Yaroslavsky:
"On October 1, 1962, Congress adopted a joint resolution authorizing the President to designate May 15th of each year as `Peace Officers Memorial Day' and the week in which it falls as `Police Week.' In addition, Public Law 103-322 (36 U.S.C. 136) directed that the United States flag be flown at half-staff on Peace Officers Memorial Day.
"The current Board Policy on Displaying the Flag at half-staff does not include this provision."
Therefore, at the suggestion of Supervisor Yaroslavsky and on motion of Supervisor Knabe, seconded by Supervisor Antonovich, unanimously carried (Supervisors Molina and Yaroslavsky being absent), the Board amended its policy on displaying the flag at half-staff to provide that the United States flag be lowered to half-staff at all County facilities each year on May 15th, in accordance with Public Law 103-322 and the Congressional Joint Resolution approved October 1, 1962, designating May 15th of each year as "Peace Officers Memorial Day," and the week in which it falls as "Police Week."
